Insulated
Weatherproof Shelters:
Whether
in Afghanistan or Kosovo, the cold can kill refugees exposed to
the freezing night. Tri-Med is working on developing an insulated
shelter that will give the refugee adequate protection.
The
Global Shelter is made of a recycled paper product and comes flat
packed for optimal shipment.
With
a 2.2 m x 2.2 m floor area and 2.4 max height, the shelter provides
adequate space for a family of four.
These
shelters will be available towards the end of 2001.

WorldSpace
Radios:
Tri-Med is the Aid distributor for WorldSpace radios. This
is a satellite broadcasting service, providing digital, crystal
clear radio to Africa, Asia and Latin America. WorldSpace transmits
more than 60 channels, including BBC World Service, CNN News and
Bloombergs Financial Services, a wide area learning channel as well
as dozens of music and general interest programs in many different
languages.
Unlike
satellite TV, this service is free. There are no subscriptions to
pay.
In
conjunction with WorldSpace, Tri-Med is currently investigating
the feasibility of establishing a channel for the specific use by
the NGO community, transmitting agency-specific programs as well
as community based programs that are of benefit to the listeners.
