Projects:
Tri-Med has considerable experience of working
with the international community in areas of profound need. A few are
listed here.
- India:
Tri-Med placed staff members in the Bhuj earthquake area within three
days of the major tremor. Tri-Med coordinated with the NGOs working
in the disaster zone and arranged for the delivery by full air charter
and by truck of about $ 1.4 million worth of shelter material, blankets
and collapsible water containers.
- Sierra
Leone:
Tri-Med airlifted shelter and feeding material into Freetown for use
with recently displaced persons. Tri-Med placed plastic sheeting and
blankets into a Forward Store in Sierra Leone, available for drawdown
at short notice by the NGOs.
- Kosovo:
Tri-Med had five staff members in the region within a few days of the
war breaking out. A local office was opened at the same time, which
remains open now. The office coordinated the import of a large quantity
of emergency supplies. Tri-Med handled more than 25 full charter aircraft
and 120 full truck loads of supplies and equipment for the relief effort.
- Armenia:
Tri-Med was contracted to supply, distribute and monitor the use of
a large quantity of pharmaceuticals in Armenia for their National Health
Service. The consignment was flown in on two IL 76 freighters into Yerevan.
One expatriate and four local staff monitored the distribution and use
over a period of 8 months.
- Uganda:
Tri-Med was contracted to buy, clean, bag and distribute a large quantity
of maize in Uganda. Tri-Med purchased the maize in Uganda and in neighbouring
countries. One expatriate and two local staff monitored the distribution
and use over a period of 4 months.
- East Timor:
Tri-Med responded to the troubles in East Timor promptly and efficiently.
A wide range of supplies were shipped out to NGOs operating in the region,
including trucks, plastic sheeting, blankets, foodstuffs etc.
